Papers, [1917]-1965.

These papers largely consist of scrapbooks, certificates, and medals awarded during the war and after in recognition for his fight against tuberculosis. Of special interest is a scrapbook of photographic prints of various workers and processes at the following Philadelphia area companies, General Cigar Company, Maddox Potteries Company, and the Stetson Hat Factory. There are additional photographic prints of the safety or first aid departments of Bethlehem Steel Company as well ad mine rescuers from the Department of Interior, Bureau of Mines. Another scrapbook, which was originally sent home to Long's parents, pertains to his research in the Arizona desert, near Tucson.

Esmond Ray Long was born in Chicago. He was a graduate of the University of Chicago and did post-graduate work at the University of Prague in Czechoslovakia. Long joined the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1932 as a professor of pathology and director of the Henry Phipps Institute for the Study, Treatment, and Prevention of Tuberculosis.
