Henry Drinker, a prominent Quaker merchant in Philadelphia, was the son of Henry and Mary Gottier Drinker. He married Ann Swett in 1754 and then, after her death, married Elizabeth Sandwith in 1761. Drinker is perhaps best known for his exile with other Quaker pacifists to Winchester, Virginia, during 1777-1778. John Read was a lawyer, financier, and philanthropist in Philadelphia, Pa. Born in 1769, he was the son of George Read and Gertrude Ross. He graduated from the College of New Jersey (Princeton) in 1787 and then studied law in his father's office in New Castle, Delaware. Read was admitted to the bar in 1791.
