ALsS : to George Washington, 1798-1799.

The letters, dated 3, 13, and 20 Oct. 1798 and 2 and 21 Feb. 1799, are chiefly concerned with American relations with France and the opinions of Pickering and other cabinet members about the appointment and conduct of the American diplomats, especially Elbridge Gerry. Other topics are the military and political situation in Europe and the appointment of officers for the army. Much of the information on French and European events is drawn from letters to Pickering from Rufus King.
