Monthly reports of oyster licenses issued and oyster tax collected, 1891-1895.

The major functions of the oyster inspector were to regulate business and protect the environment by overseeing the oyster industry. Among the activities used to accomplish this were the registering of licenses issued to oyster fishermen's boats with the probate judge of Mobile County, and the registering of taxes collected on the amounts caught. This activity resulted in the creation of this series. The series contains information on the licensing of oyster fishermen: "license number, name of person to whom issued, for whom issued, date issued, name of boat, type of rigging, number of barrels capacity, where caught, when caught, number of catchers, and amount of tax paid." The reports were compiled by the Probate Judge of Mobile Co. and filed in the State Auditor's office.
