James Beith diaries : and related materials : ms., 1862-1888.

Record of his life and activities, mainly in Arcata, Calif. Notes on national and state politics and his own participation in local Democratic affairs; logging, farming and mining; Indians of the area; friends and associates. Later volumes contain only intermittent and more general reflections on current events. Poem, "Written for my friend James Beith, Arcata, Feb. 6, 1861," a few accounts and a clipping, removed from various volumes, placed in portfolio.

In 1865-1866, Beith visited San Francisco and the Bay area; in Aug., 1876, was one of the commissioners to settle financial affairs of the abolished Klamath Co.; for various periods was a resident of Humboldt, Klamath and Siskiyou Counties.
