The papers of Dr. John Martin primarily contain photographs that he took during his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Photographs of Northern France and German cities such as Solingen and Essen in 1945 are included. News clippings from Stars and Stripes and other publications about the course of the war, as well as photographs of Governor James Folsom welcoming the French Gratitude Train in Montgomery, Ala., after the war, are also present.

James E. Folsom was born 1908 Oct. 9 to Joshua Marion and Eulala Cornelia Dunnavant Folsom in Farmer's Academy, Coffee County, Ala. When he was two the Folsom family moved to Elba. James E. was the sixth of seven children. Folsom attended public schools and attended both the University of Ala. and Howard College for short stints in the years 1927-1929.
