Ann (Fraser) Brewer was the daughter of Jane Gardiner and George C. Fraser, a lawyer practicing in New York City. She attended the Brearley School and Bryn Mawr College and trained as a geologist, but gave up her hopes for a career when she married George E. Brewer, Jr., in 1922. George Brewer served a two-year term (1915-1916) as the only Socialist member in the Kansas state legislature. From 1918 to 1924 he lectured for the Non-Partisan League in Minnesota and North Dakota. Grace Babbit Brewer was secretary to Eugene V. Debs and managed the Appeal's lecture bureau. She was member of the Women's National Committee of the Socialist Party (1915-1916).
