Papers, 1840-1907, consisting of a letter, a few fragmentary writings on medicine, a register, two account books, and a typed transcript of a news paper article. The letter, n.d. has had the signature torn or cut off of it. The writings on medicine consist of two sheets from one manuscript or speech of at least twenty-four pages in length, and a short note on fever. The register of patients, 1840, is an alphabetical listing of his patients, with references to an account book. The smaller account book, n.d., begins with a listing of patients and refers to ledger page numbes as well as listing a monetary value, but in the back part of the volume are listed visits to each patient under the patient's name. The larger account book, 1847-1849, begins as a daybook, including prescriptions given and supplies bought for 1847, contains an index in the center, and ends as an account book for 1848-1849, including patients such as Bolling Hall (1767-1836), James A. Ware, Zach Taliaferro, and many others. Also included is a typed transcript of the newspaper article "Flowers and Flower Lessons", printed in The Montgomery Advertiser, 1907 Mar. 3, which included a description of the Holt's garden.

Holt was born 1803 Oct. 14 to Dr. William and Lucy Saunders Holt, in Elberton, Elbert Co., Ga. Holt graduated in medicine at the South Carolina Medical College in Charleston, S.C. He moved to Montgomery, Montgomery Co., Ala., in 1827, and practiced medicine there for nearly fourty years. Bolling Hall was born in Virginia. As a young man, he served in the Revolutionary War. He moved to Hancock County, Georgia, where he became a prominent citizen. He was a member of the Georgia General Assembly, 1800-1802 and 1804-1806, and a Representative in the 12th, 13th, and 14th Congress from 1811 to 1817. He moved to Alabama to become a farmer.
