McKenzie-Herring family letters, 1852-1908.

The letters in this collection come from primarily the McKenzie and Herring families with a few scattered pieces from the Black and Senn families. Family and some business matters are the principal subjects found in the letters. Included in the correspondence are a few leaflets advertising machinery, schools, medical cures, and other services. It is interesting that despite the fact that many of the letters were written during the Civi War, the war is not mentioned. All of the letters have their corresponding envelopes and original stamps. Some of the correspondents in the collection include T. H. Alexander, Emma Bell, Louis Cherry, R. J. Dubose, and A. Douglas McKinnon.

The McKenzie and Herring families are the primary creators of this collection of letters, which also contains correspondence of the Black and Senn families. The families resided in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and Louisiana. From evidence found in the letters the two families of McKenzie and Herring seem to be related by marriage. The letters from the Black family seem to be connected to the McKenzie family by the partnership of McKenzie and Black, brokers and manuf...
