Walter William Liggett (1886-1935), American author, editor and political worker, worked at several newspapers in New York City before becoming a free-lance writer. He wrote books about pioneer life and published a biography of Herbert Hoover. In 1932 he returned to his home in Minnesota and was assassinated because of his political writings. Thomas J. Mooney was born on December 8, 1882 in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Indiana and Massachusetts. A molder by trade, Mooney first came to California in 1908, permanently settling in San Francisco in 1910.
