Letter to Andrew Adams describing the current state of affairs in the Northern Department of the Continental Army. Pierce describes the recent pay received by the army and how it is only a partial payment. He describes the Canadian campaign and the sense of loss felt by the death of Montgomery. Pierce also relates the commanding style of General Gates. He descibes Gates as old but dedicated to the cause.
