General file of miscellaneous pieces and four small groups of papers concerning Indians east of the Mississippi River. The transfers of land in New England, New York, and Michigan described in deeds, surveys, and treaties is the main subject of the file, which also contains information on Indian ethnology and military and political affairs, negotiations, as reflected in treaties, agreements, proclamations, etc. Although tribes belonging to the Iroquian language family, including the Cherokees, are the most fully represented, Algonquian family, especially in the Great Lakes region, are also covered.

Harmen Meyndertsz van den Bogaert was one of Manhattan's first surgeon, in addition he was also a barber. In his younger years, he became well respected in his community.
