The collection concerns the Civil War, McDonald's positions as ordnance officer at Vicksburg, Miss., and Fisheries Commissioner, personal visits to Robert E. Lee after the war, the organization and work of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and other matters. Includes family correspondence of McDonald's wife, Mary McCormick McDonald, and his grandfather, A.W. McDonald, an Indian fighter; and of the Reverend Robert T. Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870) served as General of the Confederate Army in the U.S. Civil War and was president of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia from 1865 to 1870. Lee spent the first twenty-three years of his military career in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
