Morris Sayre was born in Montrose, Pennsylvania, on November 27, 1885. His father was an iron foundry operator. The younger Sayre graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His first job was with the Corn Products Refining Company of Granite City, Illinois.
