Morris Sayre was born in Montrose, Pennsylvania, on November 27, 1885. His father was an iron foundry operator. The younger Sayre graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His first job was with the Corn Products Refining Company of Granite City, Illinois. He remained with the firm until his retirement in 1950. He was named vice president in 1928 and president in 1945. Under Sayre's direction the Corn Products Refining Company became an industry leader producing Mazola Oil, Karo Syrup, and Argo Corn Starch.
In 1932 Morris Sayre became a director of the National Association of Manufacturers, of which he became president in 1948.
