The papers reflect Emile du Pont's position as Du Pont's Director of Employee Relations. The bulk of the files deal with Emile du Pont's official speeches, most of which were given to managers and employees of the many Du Pont plants and to local trade and civic groups. The files contain drafts of the speeches themselves, correspondence regarding the arrangments, and copies of programs and other brochures. The talks deal with the history of the Du Pont Company, its current activities and performance, and particularly with industrial relations and safety issues. Smaller files document du Pont's role in the National Safety Council and as a stockholder and director of the Du Pont Company. The latter file includes a copy of Judge Metzman's 1967 decision in the suit brought by a group of General Motors stockholders against General Motors and the Du Pont Company. There is also considerable information on the preparation of "The Du Pont Story" a feature film released in 1951, including a draft of the screenplay.

Du Pont, Emile Francis, 1898-1974

Emile Francis du Pont was born on May 20, 1898 and was educated at the United States Naval Academy and Yale University. In 1923 he joined the operating department of the Du Pont Rayon Company (Buffalo, N.Y.). Two years later he became assistant plant manager of the Cellophane Division (Richmond, Va.). From 1934 to 1941 he was director of production for the Nylon Division. In 1945 he became director of the Employee Relations Department. Emile du Pont also served on the Du Pont Company's Executive...
