Disposition Authorities for Individual Classification for Headuqarters Case Files. Part B: Classification 75. Bondsmen and Sureties.

A Bureau directive of January 22, 1925, established this classification for investigation of fraudulent criminal bail bonds regardless of the Federal criminal statues violated. The Bureau does not investigate forfeited bail bonds or the issuance of immigration bonds furnished in regard to control and regulation of admission and deportation of aliens. Prosecurtions are usually instituted under the perjury and conspiracy statutes. In recent years, the Bureau has given greater attention to cases involving habitual or professional bondsmen.

The FBI established this classification when it assumed responsibility for ascertaining the protection capabilities and weaknesses of defense plants.
