Disposition Authorities for Individual Classifications for Headquarters Case Files. Part B: Classification 152. Switchblade Knife Act.

This classification was established in 1958 to cover FBI investigations into violations of the Switchblade Knife Act which prohibited the introduction of or manufacture for introduction into interstate commerce of switchblde knives over three inches long. The original legislation was aimed at controlling approximately 20 manufacturers in Italy and approximately 30 in the United States. The Bureau has investigated few cases in this classification.

The FBI established this classification when it assumed responsibility for ascertaining the protection capabilities and weaknesses of defense plants. Each plant survey was a separate case file, with the survey, supplemental surveys, and all communications dealing with a plant insofar as plant protection was concerned, filed together.
