Scrapbook of clippings on Charles A. Clinton and San Francisco water rates, 1893-1898.

Consists entirely of newspaper clippings. Most clippings mention Clinton and discuss San Francisco water rates, the Spring Valley Water Co. and its Engineer Schussler, the "Shifty Eight" (supervisors), Mayor Phelan. These clippings include several portraits (drawings) of Clinton, and political cartoons (most by Swinnerton). There are also clippings on water rates elsewhere in the country and on San Francisco's gas and electric rates. Another topic is street railways: safety, the Market- Street Railway Co., and its president, H.E. Huntington. One article lists "streetcar murders" 1889-1898. Also includes a few articles on other topics such as Butchertown and cigarette smoking among boys.
