Letter to the Commissioners auditing The Publick Accounts some 30 years after the event, outlining the financing of the army and civil government in Canada in the period immediately after the British conquest. Murray relates how he managed the sixteen or seventeen thousand pounds which he inherited in the army's accounts.

James Murray, distinguished general and governor of Quebec, was born in Scotland. He was commissioned to British army about 1740 and served in several expeditions in the West Indies, Flanders and Brittany. Murray played a vital part in the conquest of Canada, serving as commander of the operations against Montreal which led to the final French surrrender.
