Correspondence, art work, mechanicals and related materials for threebooks designed by Bruce Rogers: The twelve moneths [sic] by Nicholas Breton (1951); the Life of St. George (text from a translation by William Caxton from the Golden legend, 1957); and a projected version of the 1750 edition of Philidor's Chess analysed (1950s). Also: proofs, printing plates and copies of the "book label" (bookplate) Rogers designed for Borsodi. The collection also includes the undated autograph manuscript of Rogers' memoir, informally titled "My first quarter-century," as well as a typescript by Borsodi that discusses his purchase of this item from Rogers. Also: correspondence between Borsodi with E. H. Mundell and Ben Grauer regarding possible publication of the memoir. Other correspondents include, but are not limited to: Bert Clarke, Will Ransom, Paul Standard, Norman H. Strouse, Frederic Warde, Daniel J. Way, and Stone ? undated pages from dealers' catalogs offering Rogers' material; some printed items relating to the output of the Riverside Press; and a few invitations, Christmas cards (designed by Rogers and by Ben Grauer) and articles about Rogers.

Bruce Rogers was a major American type and book designer. He graduated from Purdue University and first worked as a book and newspaper illustrator. After moving to Boston, Rogers eventually joined the Riverside Press of the Houghton-Mifflin Co. as a designer in 1896.
