Civil War journal, 1862-1891 (inclusive) 1862-1865 (bulk).

Civil War journal, August 31, 1862-May 21, 1865, constituting a meticulous, voluminous record, including copies of related documents and notes. Byrne first entered in this volume, during the war, personal copies of his official documents -- returns of stores, clothing, camp and garrison equippage, forage, etc. Soon after (with scattered notations as late as 1891) he extended it with various additions, including the journal (compiled from wartime diaries and letters) and notes on the 13th Infantry Regiment (lists of marches, camps, and officers; word sketches of fellow officers and a few enlisted men; and five maps of routes and battle dispositions, 1862-1863).
