Soldier and lawyer, of New Jersey; mustered into the 13th Infantry Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers, as quartermaster, August 1862; served as acting assistant quartermaster, 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Corps from December 1864; brevetted a captain, March 1865; mustered out, June 8, 1865; resided originally in Middletown Point (now Matawan), Monmouth County, but later (by 1873) lived in Newark, Essex County; died at the New Jersey Home for Disabled Soldiers, Kearny, Hudson County, October 15, 1895.

Mustered at Camp Frelinghuysen, Newark, August 25, 1862, the 13th Infantry Regiment was attached to the Army of the Potomac (and fought at Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, etc.) until September 1863, and to the Army of the Tennessee until November 1864. The regiment then participated in Sherman's March to the Sea, 1864-1865.
