Major figures in American music, 1968-1989 (inclusive).

Major Figures in American Music consists primarily of over 200 tape-recorded interviews with composers and performers of 20th-century American music. The majority of these interviews were conducted specifically for this project between 1968 and 1989, and new interviews are still being added. Each interview attempts to be comprehensive, covering such topics as a subject's early childhood, influences on his or her musical development, and discussions of major works. Most interviews are with the primary subject; in a few cases, interviews with friends or associates are included. Major Figures in American Music also holds: tape-recorded interviews donated from several commercial and private sources; over 20 videotaped interviews; transcripts; and detailed tables of contents.
