Scholar of American literature and great supporter of Woodrow Wilson's foreign policy, Kline was a journalist, editor, and publisher in the midwest, of the Progressivist tradition. He had a book collection centering on the classics of English literature in the wighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This was given to Stanford Libraries in 1980 by his caughter, Mrs. William A.C.
