A large collection of records related to the business and military interests of Henry R. Wendell as well as to Schenectady, New York and surrounding region. Included are correspondence, deeds, bonds, accounts, receipts, patents and other land records, powers of attorney, petitions, wills and other legal documents. Also included are papers relating to Wendell's War of 1812 military service. These papers include correspondence, medical and pension records, company requisitions and orders, inventories and receipts. Among the items in the collection are several that relate to the Revolutionary war, including correspondence and receipts. Other documents, apparently unrelated to Wendell include papers relating to the suppression of duel, 1818-1822; bills of sale for slaves, 1709-1811; deeds to Indian lands, 1730, 1783; and bills and contracts relating to the Troy and Schenectady Turnpike Company, the Albany and Schenectady Turnpike Company and the Mohawk and Hudson Railroad Company.
