District land office Registers issued final certificates to purchasers after they made their final payment. The certificate could then be presented to the U.S. Land Office to receive a patent. This book contains original blank certificates and certificate stubs. The certificates, when completed, list the purchasers name, the location of the tract, the total number of acres, price per acre and total price of the land sold. The completed certificate stubs list the certificate number, the date, the purchaser's name, the location of the tract, the number of acres and price per acre. The stubs are signed by the Register and some include notes, such as Cherokee School Land and commuted from homestead entry. These records document the process by which public lands were sold.
