Journal (notebook), 1900 June 21 - 1901 Sept. 12, written in Birmingham, Ala., and in which are discussed Griffin's daily activities and expenditures, often in great detail, in caring for dependent and delinquent boys at the Alabama Boys' Industrial School. The payroll and each month's financial statement and inventory of goods at the school are included in the journal, as are quarterly financial statements and a few printed photographs. The journal is about 400 pages in length, and most of the boys in the school are named by Griffin.

Griffin was the first superintendent of the Alabama Boys' Industrial School, located in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., Ala. For a time it was located in East Lake, Jefferson Co., Ala. When Griffin was superintendent, the officers of the board of control of the school were Mrs. R.D. Johnston, president; Mrs. George B. Eager, vice-president; Mrs. T.G. Bush, treasurer; and Mrs. A.G.
