Papers, 1862-1881 (bulk 1862-1863).

Letters, a broadside, and a cameo portrait. Most of the correspondence is from Styer to his wife Susannah during the Civil War. There is also correspondence to Styer, and correspondence of family members. Also included is an 1881 broadside and letter from the KOKOMO TRIBUNE concerning a theft from Spring Mills, and an undated cameo portrait of Styer.

A native of Ohio, Styer moved to Kokomo, Ind. During the Civil War he served with Company D of the 89th Indiana Volunteer Regiment as a second lieutenant. In March 1863 Styer was put in command of the military prison at Fort Pickering in Memphis, Tenn. After the war he returned to Kokomo and in 1881 bought Spring Mills.
