Stanford Alpine Club records circa 1946-2000

This collection contains subject files organized by John Rawlings during the research for his book THE STANFORD ALPINE CLUB (Stanford, CA, Stanford University Libraries/CSLI Publications, 1999) as well as original materials contributed by club members. Included are correspondence, photographs, maps, articles, club ephemera, clippings, copy of Rawlings' book, and text, captions, and materials from an exhibit on the Stanford Alpine Club mounted in the Stanford University Libraries. Materials added in 2009 include a copy of the club's booklet "Mountaineering: Freedom of the Quad," 1971, VHS video Dave Harrah "Yerupaja," and a 16mm film roll "Sam & Carol mountain climbing."

Bob Swift was part of a team tasked with doing archaeological investigation along the Colorado River in August 1955. He was accompanied by Raymond deSaussure, Arthur L. Lange, Arthur L. Chaffin, "Black" George Simmons, Dave Gaskill, and Ranger James "Jimmy" Brooks. Bob's role was to climb and take photos of the trip.
