A native of Atascosa County, Texas, Ted Schwarz (1911-1978) conducted research on the battle of Medina. In addition to publishing Forgotten Battlefield of the First Texas Revolution: The Battle of Medina, August 13, 1813 (1985), he also authored several articles on the battle for the Atascosa Monitor during the 1930s.
