I. F. Cavaness (1841-1885) was a doctor and soldier, who fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. During the Maryland Campaign (1862), the Union Army captured him. After being paroled, Cavaness fought in several more battles and skirmishes, until his capture at Fort Harrison in Richmond, Virigina, in 1864.
