Cavaness, I. F., 1841-1885
I. F. Cavaness (1841-1885) was a doctor and soldier, who fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. During the Maryland Campaign (1862), the Union Army captured him. After being paroled, Cavaness fought in several more battles and skirmishes, until his capture at Fort Harrison in Richmond, Virigina, in 1864. Once again, he was paroled and returned to fighting in Virginia, including at the Siege of Petersburg (1865), until the end of the war.
