Born in 1784 in Virginia, General Parmenas Briscoe settled on a plantation near Port Gibson in Claiborne County, Mississippi. There, he and his wife, Polly Montgomery (1794-ca. 1840) reared eleven children: Andrew (1810-1849), James Montgomery, Robert Parmenas, William P., Phillip, George C., Emily, Clarissa, Mary Ann, George Troup, and Samuel. Andrew Briscoe was born on November 25, 1810, in Claiborne County, Mississippi, to Parmenas Briscoe and Polly Montgomery. He moved to Texas in 1833. He signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. As captain he led the Liberty Volunteers at the battle of Concepcíon, and Company A, Infantry Regulars at the Battle of San Jacinto. Briscoe served as chief justice of Harrisburg from 1836-1839. Briscoe, Mary Jane Harris, 1819-1903

Mary Jane Harris was born August 17, 1819, to John Richardson and Jane Birdsall Harris. She married Andrew Briscoe in 1837 in Texas. After Andrew's death in 1849, Mary Jane and her 4 children moved to her father-in-law's plantation in Mississippi. In 1852 she returned to Texas. She was a charter member of the Ladies' Reading Club, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Texas State Historical Association. She was active in the Texas Veterans Association.
