Arvid Youngquist Papers 1962-1992 1980-1992

Arvid Youngquist moved to Austin, Texas in 1967 from Japan to attend the University of Texas. After relocating to Hawaii in the 1970s he returned to Austin in 1987 and became involved in various local civic and political organizations. The collection spans the years 1962 to 1992 and highlights his family history as well as his interest in local politics.

Arvid Youngquist was born in Japan in the late 1940s to an American father and Japanese mother. He graduated from St. Joseph College (Catholic international school, located in Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan that primarily served the expatriate community) with a high school diploma in 1967. He arrived in Austin, Texas later in the same year to attend the University of Texas. He joined the Army in 1969 and served in Ethiopia.
