Arthur Anderson was a native Texan, as was his father James Anderson. During World War II he held many positions while in the Navy including being assigned to the 31st NCB as the head engineer in 1943. The 31st NCB was attached to the Fifth Marine Division and with the Marines he landed on Iwo Jima on D-day in 1945. Established in 1934 by the Texas Legislature, the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) is a public agency and conservation and reclamation district in the ten Texas counties through which the Colorado River flows. Born in Texas, artist Arthur Art G. Anderson (d. 1991) served in the Navy during World War II, during which he participated in the 5th Marine Corps division landing at Iwo Jima. Anderson is credited with creating a commemorative plaque of the division’s raising of a flag on Mount Suribachi.
