DeCost Smith was born in Skaneateles, New York, about 1865, the son of Reul Smith. He studied art in Paris and New York City and traveled around the world doing paintings of nature. Dr. Daniel Garrison Brinton (13 May 1837-31 July 1899) was born in Thornbury Township, Chester County, Pa., on "Homestead Farm" to Lewis and Ann (Garrison) Brinton.
