John J. Montgomery Papers, 1885-1947

John Joseph Montgomery (1858-1911) was an inventor and physics professor interested in aeronautics from Monterey, Calif. The collection includes photocopies of correspondence and other papers relating to the 1880s flying experiments of Montgomery. Papers include some of his writings about his flights, and letters to his sister and from a Chicago engineer concerning glider experiments. Additional items, 1911-1947, concern the family's attempt to see that Montgomery was given credit for his work.
