John Joseph Montgomery (1858-1911) was an inventor and physics professor interested in aeronautics from Monterey, Calif. Montgomery was the son of Zach Montgomery of Fruitland farm, near San Diego, Calif. His early aeronautical experiments were in San Diego County; later he taught at Santa Clara College and was head of the physics department while he continued his inventions and experiments. He was killed in a crash during a flight attempt.
