Sumner Archibald Cunningham Papers, . 1891-1945

Sumner Archibald Cunningham (1843-1913) of Tennesee was the founder and editor of the (Nashville, 1893-1932). The collection is chiefly letters, 1891-1909, to Cunningham, relating to the contents and circulation of the magazine, veterans' affairs in general, and litigation over the management of the Confederate Memorial Association. Papers, 1924-1945, consist of correspondence between Edith D. Pope, who succeeded Cunningham as editor, and manuscript dealers Forest H. Sweet of Battle Creek, Mich., and C. M. Crook of Birmingham, Ala., concerning the sale of memorabilia, and an article by Pope on Cunningham. Confederate Veteran

Sumner Archibald Cunningham (1843-1913) of Tennesee was the founder and editor of the Confederate Veteran (Nashville, 1893-1932). Cunningham served in the Confederate army in Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi. After the war he was an editor and agent for the Jefferson Davis Memorial Fund.
