Leonard Gilchrist Wilson was born on June 11, 1928 in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. He earned his B.A. in biology from the University of Toronto in 1949, his M.Sc. from the University of London in 1955 and his Ph.D. in 1958 from the University of Wisconsin.
