George Malcolm Stephenson earned his Ph. D. from Harvard 1914. After working briefly at the University of Minnesota (1914-15), Stephenson held a joint appointment as an instructor at DePaul University and Dartmouth University. He returned to the University of Minnesota where he taught history from 1918 to 1952. John Lind was born in 1854 in Sweden and emigrated to Minnesota in 1868. From a career as a lawyer he went on to become the first Swedish-born American elected to the United States House of Representatives.
