Ralph Droz Casey was born on May 8, 1890 in Aspen, Colorado. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1913 and master's degree in 1924 from the University of Washington. In 1929, he earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin. Before becoming a professor of journalism, Dr. Casey was a reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the New York Herald .
