Erik A. Dundurs (1922-1984) left his native Latvia in 1944, just ahead of the advancing Russian army. He fled to Germany, where he worked for the International Refugee Organization. While in Germany, he married his wife, Ruta, and in 1949 they immigrated to Minnesota. The couple had two sons. Between 1949 and 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Dundurs served as managers of a St. Paul (Minn.) resettlement home for displaced persons.
