William Inman Martin was born on May 5, 1910, in Ava, Missouri. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1934, and advanced through grades to the rank of vice admiral in 1967. Robert Emmett Riera was born November 30, 1912, in Pensacola, Florida. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1935, and advanced to the rank of rear admiral in 1963.
