John A. Heintges was born in 1912 in Germany. He was a United States (U.S.) Army officer and a battalion and regimental commander in World War II (WWII). He served in Laos from 1959-1961 and the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam from 1965-1967. Wheeler was born in 1908; served in the District of Columbia National Guard (1924-1928); graduated from the United States Military Academy (1932); attended the Infantry School (1937).
