William Signius Knudsen (1879-1948) was born in Denmark on March 25, 1879. He apprenticed as a bicycle mechanic then held a variety of positions in the United States with Ford Motor Company and Chevrolet Motor Company. He served as vice president, then president of General Motors from 1933 to 1942.
