WORLD STARTLED AND WOULD NOT BELIEVE UNTIL THE U.S. ARMY BOUGHT ITS FIRST PLANE IN 1908. THE BIRTH OF THE U.S. AIR CORPS. 3) MS soldiers removing Wright aircraft from storage building at Ft. Meyer, Virginia. FORT MEYER, VIRGINIA. THE WRIGHT BROTHERS WERE AWARDED A CONTRACT TO BUILD THIS PLANE AT A PURCHASE PRICE OF $25,000 PROVIDED IT MET THE GOVERNNENT SPECIFICATIONS. IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE SOME OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS. THE MACHINE MUST HAVE DEVELOPED A SPEED OF 36 MILES PER HOUR, BE PORTABLE STAY IN THE AIR l HOUR AND ASCEND IN ANY COUNTRY ENCOUNTERED IN FIELD SERVICE. NOTE THE HANGAR AND METHOD OF STORING. 4) MS storage shed at Ft. Meyer, soldiers dropping doors down from ramp. Wright aircraft is stored in the building.
