John Winthrop Ballantine (b. Oct. 1, 1920, N.Y.C.-d. Apr. 20, 2003, N.Y.C.) was a graduate of Harvard University in 1942. He served on the New Jersey State Board of Mediation from 1949 to 1955, and served on the faculty of the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, beginning in 1963. Arthur Atwood Ballantine (1883-1960), tax expert, was appointed to a three-man committee to advise the Commissioner of Internal Revenue on legal questions arising from the new war revenue laws, particularly the excess profits tax enacted in October 1917. He became Solicitor of the Internal Revenue Service in 1918 and, in 1927, was named as an advisor to the Treasury Department and the Joint Committee of Congress on Internal Revenue Taxation.
