This series consists of subject files relating to and drafts of "On His Own: Robert F. Kennedy, 1964-1968," a book co-authored by Milton Gwirtzman and William vanden Heuvel and published in 1970. Included are holographic and typed chapter drafts and published and unpublished material generated during the writing of the book, as well as an alphabetical subject file containing the background material Gwirtzman used, including campaign literature, correspondence, magazine clips, memoranda, news clippings, notes, polls, schedules, telephone messages, and testimonials regarding Robert F. Kennedy. The bulk of the material relates to Kennedy's 1964 Senate Campaign and his 1968 Presidential Campaign. There also are letters and news clippings regarding the public's reception of the book.

Milton Saul Gwirtzman (b. 1913) was a legislative assistant in the U.S. Senate from 1959 to 1963, and a law partner with Dutton, Gwirtzman, Zumas & Wise in Washington, D.C., from 1964 to 1973. He was Chairman of the Board of Overseas Information Systems in Paris, France from 1970 to 1973. Gwirtzman was Assistant Director of Research for John F.
